Downtown Disney has been a great tourist attraction for years- but literally every time I have ever visited (I have lived in orlando for the past 20 years, so I have gone quite a few times) I have had trouble parking. You play the game of musical chairs basically on the weekends, waiting for a car to leave a spot so you can rush to fill it before someone else does.
With the new renovation comes a great solution. A parking garage! Unfortunately, until it is built the traffic situation will only be getting worse, as the existing parking lots have been closed and taken over by construction. Now, there is less parking than ever! Disney had better pull of another record breaking construction schedule like they did for the new Fantasyland expansion- otherwise they could start losing business as people might just decide that they don't want to go through the hassle and decide to eat and shop elsewhere.
Another question I have is whether Disney will begin charging guests to park in the garage. With CityWalk (a similar venue at Universal Studios) charging close to $20 just to park your car, Downtown Disney's free parking was a major selling point. Who wants to pay $20 just to park before paying for lunch, drinks or a movie? It's outrageous!
What do you think of the changes to Downtown Disney's parking situation?
